Dr Milan Konecny is the President of International Cartographic Association. He is also the Associate Professor of Cartography and Geoinformatics at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Czech Republic. He has authored over 70 papers in the field of cartography and geoinformatics. They include papers on the application of GIS, remote sensing, digital cartography, information superhighways, and spatial data infrastructures to sustainable development. Involved in technology transfer to the developing countries and countries with transforming economies (especially Central and Eastern European ones). His other activities include involvement in the European Information Society Forum, founding the Global Society Dialogue initiative and the Czech Information Society Forum. He also has many publications to his credit.
