GEOPEDIA – The 2nd GIS Educational Forum

The 2nd GIS Educational Forum is being organized by Dubai Municipality in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs and Zayed Center for Children of Spatial Needs from 10-11th April 2007 under the umbrella of Map Middle East 2007. The forum aims at spreading awareness and setting up a sound foundation of geospatial science and technologies by educating future generations. The forum will address the awareness and the need for GIS among the students and how it is going to help them in day to day life.

GIS Educational Forum Goals

  • Familiarise techniques of GIS and remote sensing, and use of maps to the school students.
  • Development of the child's personality through the encouragement of logical and analytical thinking about the surrounding challenge, as well as the development of the ability to debate, communicate and present.

  • Provide educational resources for teachers: the practical application of the concepts of GIS and remote sensing, during the curriculum.


GIS Educational Forum Activities

  • The Technical Research Test in conformity with GIS technique aims at enhancing the mapping ability within the students. The technical research would focus on hindrances in the student’s surroundings, and its analysis by using GIS and related tools.

  • Map Drawing Contest, is being organized in cooperation with ICACI for the first time. The Map Drawing Contest is targeting all GCC children aged 3 to 15 yrs. All participated maps will be displayed during the Map Middle East Conference, where five winners will be selected from each country to participate in the World Map Competition in 2007.
