Plenary Sessions
Geospatial Convergence
This session would focus on emerging potential application area out of the convergence between geospatial technologies with it's own branch or with the other streams. Some of the emerging area like vehicle navigation which is an outcome of convergence of digital mapping, satellite positioning and mobile computing is already becoming popular in Middle East region. Field surveying using PDA fitted with GPS and GIS software running on it is now becoming common. Internet GIS is yet another convergence of Internet with GIS which is now changing the landscape of GIS, thanks to Google Earth. In view of the opportunities provided by the technology convergence, it would be of interest for the geospatial community members to share, explore and learn from the experience of usage of applications of technology out of convergence.
Technology Trends
Geospatial technologies have evolved from a long way, a basic map viewing interface to complex systems that help us to solve complex problems related to the world around us. Geospatial technologies have not only restricted themselves to one domain but are embracing every segment, where location matters.
The session on Technology Trends will focus on the areas of software, hardware and data. In above mentioned areas, an attempt will be made to touch upon issues like: their evolution from past, their present status, and their emergence into the future.
