Discussion Forum on Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI)
Geospatial data is a key for national development especially in the areas of environmental planning, disaster management, infrastructure development, natural resource management, urban planning and many more. In this context, initiative such as National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) is important as it establishes not only a national data inventory but also enables in developing mechanisms for data accessibility and availability for the users who need the data.

A great development has been recorded, particularly in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which have realized numerous applications in the fields of: municipalities and urban planning, land information system, environmental information system, and petroleum industry. Enormous efforts have been focused in the region on the establishment of different Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), which can facilitate easy data acquisition and sharing, leading to information uniformity and investment saving. A number of countries have NSDIs at different stages of development

This discussion forum on Spatial Data Infrastructure will review the status of SDI activities within the various organizations using Geo-information on local and national levels. Also providing an opportunity for all the industry people, academicians, policy makers and entrepreneurs from GIS related field to meet, exchange ideas and share experiences about Spatial Data Infrastructure to keep the current momentum.
