Newly published Iraq, Baghdad, and Middle East reference maps
|
Three new special reference maps for the country of Iraq, city of Baghdad, and the Middle East region have just been published by the United States National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA). When combined with the also recently published Iraq Planning Map, they form a complete new and fresh set of reference maps for the area. The maps are unclassified and publicly available free of copyright claims. All four maps can be delivered immediately by East View Cartographic as paper originals, scanned CD-ROM rasters (400 dpi, 8-bit color, tiff file), or digitally via the internet. The following is a brief description of each:
1. CITY OF BAGHDAD REFERENCE MAP
The Baghdad City map is at a 1:40,000 scale covering from the airport and includes all the downtown area. It shows and identifies by name major roads, expressways, and streets. Secondary roads, unpaved roads, and railroads are shown in outline form but are not identified. All built up areas are shown and neighborhoods are identified by name. Palaces, hotels, government buildings, transportation buildings, hospitals, churches, mosques, museums, monuments, police stations, universities, power plants, airports, bridges,and many other types of facilities and structures are shown with many being identified by name in English. Major hydrographic features such as rivers, lakes, canals, and water reservoirs are all indicated. The area of coverage is approximately 315 sq.miles/815 sq.km. and the size of the map is 49 in./125cm by 31.5in./80cm. To view this map please click here

2. COUNTRY OF IRAQ REFERENCE MAP
This map is at 1:1,250,000 scale showing all of Iraq, virtually all of neighboring Kuwait, and portions of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Iran, and Turkey. Major population centers and provinces are indicated and identified by name. Major roads, airfields, towns, border crossing points, dams, international boundaries, defacto boundaries, administrative district boundaries, no fly and no drive zones, demilitarized zones, railroads, pipelines, oil refineries, hydrographic features, and some topographic information is indicated. The projection is Transverse Mercator, Datum is WGS 84 and the size is 33 in./84 cm.x 36in./92 cm. To view this map please click here
3. MIDDLE EAST REFERENCE MAP
The map shows all the countries of the Middle East at a 1:4,500,000 scale. Among those shown completely are Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Eritrea, Djibouti, Lebanon, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. Portions of neighboring countries shown are Sudan, Ethiopia, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and several others. Major population centers are identified as to being national capitals or by name and estimated population size. All major airports, ports, pipelines, roads, railways, oil facilties, dams, hydrographic features, political and administrative boundaries, islands, and similar features in the area are identified. 4. IRAQ PLANNING MAP
The Iraq Planning Map shows the country with political boundaries, population centers, major roads, hydrographic and other features identified. It is unique because it includes a series of inset maps which show the eighteen provinces, Kurdish Regions including boundaries of PKK, KDP, and PUK areas, power Infrastructure including locations of power generation plants, substations and powerlines, the oil Industry including oil pipelines, refineries, terminals, gas pipelines, towns and maritime routes, distances between Iraq population centers in miles and in kilometers, and a holy sites map showing Shia Shrines, Sunni/Shia Shrines and other principal shrines in Iraq and neighboring countries. The scale is 1:2,000,000, projection is Transverse Mercator, Datum is WGS-84, size is 34 in./87 cm.x 60 in./153 cm. To view this map please click here
